Unfortunately, we also witnessed some foul treatment of staff during our stay. Staff would appreciate it, for you to simply just try. This does not mean that you need to be fluent in Spanish prior to visiting, but it certainly would not hurt to learn a few basic words or phrases. Most staff know pretty good English, however, some do not know much at all. I believe it’s important to remember, as guests at the resort AND guests visiting another country, that the DR primarily speaks Spanish. Anyone we came into contact with at Zilara AND Ziva, we’re friendly and helpful- always. Everytime we travel, we like to meet the locals and see a glimpse inside their lives. what really made our stay special were the staff. I now have a new found love for affogatos after dinner ) As for the rest of the trip…. We stopped there quite often and the staff were very accommodating. The little coffee bar “Deja Brew” was super cute and had pastries, sandwiches, dessert, and of course coffee. Some days they had lunch at the pool, for example: one day was a fish fry, and another was a mojito and taco day. For us, this was nice, as we were traveling as a couple with my in laws and did not care for screaming children. However, under 18 year old Ziva guests could not come to Zilara. Ziva was easily accessible for meals or water park, or even evening events. Water park was fun and impressive to be at a resort. We also did the hydrotherapy circuit at the spa which was excellent(massages were a little on the steep side). If you care about working out, the gym is very impressive on its own (check out photos online). I suggest at least trying the local food options they have. Nespresso makers in the room and snacks refilled daily. To eat, restaurants were first come first serve, so if there is somewhere specific you’d like to eat at, plan ahead. The amenities were great, cleanliness we give 5 stars, and food- for an all inclusive? Was excellent. This was, by far, the best all inclusive resort we have been to.
